Starting as an apprentice sailmaker in 1975, John Channon learnt his trade the traditional way working his way up to become Managing Director of the Hood Lymington loft in 1990. Along the way, John was involved in building all types of different sails from dinghy sails to Super Yachts, from Cruising Sails to Racing Sails. Hood Sails in Europe, under John's leadership were one of the first sailmakers to embrace computer aided sail design by developing an in house design system. Later John introduced CFD or "Computational Fluid Dynamics" and the Finite Element Method (commonly called FEA) for the first time in the design of cruising sails.
Always in advance of the rest of the Industry, John was early to recognise the advantages of offshore production. To provide the public with the highest quality sails at the most competitive prices.
